Online Waiting List Pre-Application

Thank you for your interest in The Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach housing programs.

Applications can be received online anytime during the open wait list period. Applicants will receive a confirmation via email once the application is received. By submitting this pre-application you are not guaranteed placement on the waiting list. If you need assistance completing this application email us at HAWaitingList@LongBeach.gov.

Please follow the instructions below;

STEP 1 - Before you begin the application process;

  1. You must have a valid email address. If you do not have one, please set up an email account before you start the application and maintain it. This will be the primary way we communicate with you.
  2. Please have available all social security numbers, the date of birth and the full names of all family members. You will also need the income information of all family members. Please make sure you correctly enter all information.
  3. Submit only ONE application to the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach (HACLB). Duplicate applications will not be accepted.
  4. Confirmation that your application was received will be sent to the email address provided. Please check your email and the SPAM box for your confirmation.

STEP 2 – During the application process;

  1. It is very important you answer all questions to the best of your ability.
  2. Please make sure all questions are answered completely.
  3. You must pick the property/properties you are interested in at the end of the application. A brief description is included for each property. Please choose the ones that are the best fit for you and/or your family.

As a reminder, your selection is based on the Housing Authority established admissions preferences and/or openings at specific properties. Please note, assistance is limited to US citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status for all programs.

Requests for reasonable accommodations based on a disability must be made in writing to the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach, Attn: Fair Housing Coordinator – 521 E 4th Street, Long Beach, CA, 90802.

HACLB will conduct sex offender and criminal background checks on all family members age 18 or older. The agency will deny admission to the housing program if any member of the household is subject to a lifetime registration requirement under a sex offender registration program or has a history or pattern of violent criminal or drug activity. Screening procedures will be administered fairly and in such a way as not to violate rights to privacy or discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, religion, familial status, disability, sex, or other legally protected groups; however, providing false, incomplete, or inaccurate information is grounds for denial of your application or termination of your tenancy.

All changes to the waiting list must be submitted to HAWaitingList@LongBeach.gov . No changes will be taken over the phone.

Definition of Veteran: Person who was discharged from service under conditions other than dishonorable.

HUD definition of Homeless: 1. Individual or family who lack a fixed regular and adequate nighttime residence, or their nighttime residence is a public or private place not meant for human habitation, is living in an emergency shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangements, including hotels or motels paid for by charitable organizations or by government programs. Or are exiting an institution where they have lived for 90 days or less or who has resided in an emergency shelter or place not meant for human habitation immediately before entering that institution. 2. People who are losing their primary nighttime residence within 14 days. Or an individual or family that lacks resources or support networks needed to obtain other permanent housing. 4. People who are fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, have no other residence, and lack the resources or support networks to obtain other permanent housing.

HUD definition of Disabled Household: Any person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; has a record of such impairment; or is regarded as having such an impairment.
